Dirty Ghosts @ The Dom April 15th!

Off The Beaten Track and CKCU 93.1 FM presents:

DIRTY GHOSTS (San Francisco CA, Last Gang Records)

Allyson Baker / Dirty Ghosts

Allyson Baker doesn’t scare easily. Back in the ’90s, she was sneaking into Dwarves shows and frequenting mosh pits before she was barely out of junior high; by age of 17, she was playing guitar for some of Toronto’s most notorious punk and hardcore bands (Teen Crud Combo R.I.P.), before leaving her friends and family behind in 2000 to shake some action in San Francisco. And yet, for all her apparent fearlessness, Allyson is very much haunted by forces beyond her control. Dirty Ghosts may be her new band, but it’s the five-years-in-the-making product of a habit she just can’t quit, a sound and vision that—despite numerous obstacles along the way—just had to be unleashed.

What do they sounds like? A LOT of different things. personally I hear influences as diverse as, MC5, The Raincoats, Gang Of Four, Delta 5, Bush Tetras, ESG, Joan Jett, Outkast, Lo-Hi, Mika Miko, Essential Logic, Railroad Jerk…… but don’t mind me, listen up for yourself:

+ BOYHOOD (Ottawa, ON …members of Mouth & White Wires)

One of Ottawa’s newest and best bands. Catchy songs with haunting melodies bringing together a perfect mix of influences to create songs that will leave an impression on you.

+ BOOKS ON BOOKS (Ottawa, ON)

Let’s let Rolf Klausener from The Acorn/Silkken Laumann describe them: Combining mellifluous guitar lines, driving rhythms and a left-of-centre pop sensibility, Books On Books is fine new addition to Ottawa’s thriving music scene. Imagine the punk-rock love child of Tristesza, My Bloody Valentine and early Joan of Arc, and you got yourself some Books on Books.
